REBRANDING OUR LANDMARK FESTIVAL BENEATH THE BAOBABS
The time has come for our new year festival to evolve into much more!
Over the past 7 years, Kilifi New Year Festival has been a platform for counterculture, inviting some of the most creative communities from Kenya and East Africa to showcase alternative culture, under the majestic baobabs of Kilifi.
Now, as we pause under the restrictions of COVID, it has become clear how important our Beneath the Baobabs site is to the development of our ideas. Put simply, Kilifi New Year Festival has grown into something much bigger and is now transforming into Beneath the Baobabs as a year round event site and destination, with Beneath the Baobabs Festival now taking pride of place over New Year.
With the same spirit, but reaffirmed values, mission and vision, with events, retreats and workshops throughout the year, we invite you all to embrace the new name of Beneath the Baobabs, as we welcome in a dawn of new possibilities.
Beneath the Baobabs Festival will be the annual culmination of each year’s events, retreats and workshops on our amazing site. We will still be hosting East African and International artists across multiple stages and days, we will still be creating our mad art installations with flame throwers and lazors, and yes, we will still be a non-corporate event that places art, community and freedom of expression at the core of its values!
For now, we are busy building smaller Covid compliant events to welcome you to Beneath the Baobabs throughout the year, but we look forward to being able to produce one of the most unique events in the region, and dance with you again at Beneath the Baobabs Festival.
