A GRAND LAUNCH EVENT WITH PRINCE KAYBEE
Beneath the Baobabs presents “Journey to the Baobabs, Kilifi” a new 2 day event on the weekend of August 26th and 27th. We invite you for a true Kilifi weekend to expereince Afro-House sensation Prince Kaybee alongside local legends from Nairobi and the Coast of Kenya.
Saturday 26th August: Prince Kaybee Beneath The Baobabs
On Saturday, 26th August, The Twisted Fig Stage will be headlined by South African Afro House superstar Prince Kaybee, Suraj, DJ IV, LEMI and Lasta. Book a table and come for the full Baobab experience, where you can dance under our largest Baobab, sip sunset cocktails above the valley floor and taste our kitchen’s menu. Our new limited VIP Access package will give you parking close to the stage, and a table behind the DJ with Table Service so you can get the most out of this amazing evening beneath the baobabs. We also have day tickets and weekend tickets.
Sunday 27th August: Amapiano Beach Party & Grill
On Sunday, 27th August, our headliner, Dj and Music Producer Kaneda will be joined by Shangatau, Ms Mika, Youniverse and Xan Woods in taking over the beautiful Mabuhay Beach Bar, located at Mandarini Villas on the shore of the Kilifi Creek, for a Sunset Beach Party & Grill. You will be able to access the beach bar by boat or road, where you will be met by some of Kenya’s finest DJs, and The Twisted Fig crew keen to share their now famous BBQ & Drinks experience!
We have partnered with Mandarini Villas to offer accommodation at their premises as well and you can be sure to get the most out of this Kilifi Sunday Sundowner!
This exclusive event marks the grand launch of Journey to the Baobabs – an exciting addition to our festival repertoire, which is ever expanding thanks to you! It serves as a standalone experience to ignite the spirit of celebration and anticipation for our flagship end of year Beneath The Baobabs Festival. This is an event for our Die Hard family, for those of you who can’t make our epic Beneath the Baobabs Festival at New Year and for those of you looking for an exclusive Kilifi experience.

The Baobabs production team always pays huge attention to detail when setting up the festival arena.
With stages powered by Funktion 1, our stages and 50 acre site is decorated each year with unique lighting and stage design concepts, bringing the site to life for the imagination to run wild. From laser shows to projection mapping, you will find yourself immersed in a fantasy world of interactive art installations.
PERFORMERS
Celebrating all mediums of Kenyan art, the festival plays host to troupes of dancers, percussionists, cultural performances, actors and acrobats both on stage and throughout the grounds of the festival, providing you with a show like no other on and off the stage!
Get ready for breathtaking aerial silks, mesmerizing fire hooping, captivating flash mobs, and awe-inspiring performance art by the best african talent. The festival’s grand finale will leave you spellbound as we usher in the biggest New Year’s Eve drop you’ve ever experienced.

The Beneath the Baobabs Festival’s mission is one of transformation, through uniting people of all backgrounds, by providing a safe platform, even for the most marginalised of communities, to enjoy established and emerging East African Music, Art, Performance and Wellness, and for debates on Sustainability and Ethical topics for open dialogue between communities. Beneath the Baobabs Festival is a proudly Kenyan Destination Festival, uniting the rising counter culture movement of East Africa for a celebration like no other!
MADE BEAUTIFUL BY GREAT PARTNERS
Musically the festival showcases the most exciting East-African music of the year, with non-stop music from the 30th December to 2nd January on our Funktion One sound systems, powering stages lit by our lighting partners Aurora Africa. Previous festivals have featured artists such as Blinky Bill, Kampire, Suraj, Ochungulo Family and Faizal Mostrixx; who have been supported by international acts such as Da Capo, Osunlade, Nickodemus and Gato Preto. The focus of our bookings is to showcase the emerging and established scenes of East Africa, with breakthrough artists, live bands, acoustic acts and alternative producers often found performing on concealed stages throughout the 3 days. We represent each subculture of the East African underground music scene as best we can every year.
NEW NAME NEW HOME
As the festival exploded in popularity and outgrew its original location on the Kilifi Creek, the team, vision and dreams also expanded. A new home was found beneath a magical Baobab forest at the source of the emerald Takaungu Creek: Beneath the Baobabs – a magical destination event space and the new home for the Kilifi New Year Festival, renamed Beneath the Baobabs Festival.

As of 2020, the Beneath the Baobabs Festival (formerly known as Kilifi New Year Festival) has evolved into 3 days of diverse music, immersive art and fresh cultural experience with 60+ artists and performers across 5 stages, culminating in the burning of a large wooden sculpture, symbolizing new beginnings and our shared optimism for a brighter future; bringing together the community of Kilifi and festival goers from Kenya and East Africa.
